CSW authentication

jlong
The 'About smartEditor' page says that one key feature is

"Authentication of user and authenticated usage of transactional CSW
endpoints"

but I don't see how to do this. I would like to connect to GeoNetwork
and authenticate there. Everything else works fine under tomcat6 on debian.

Thanks,

Jim

Re: CSW authentication

Dear Jim,

at the moment smartEditor supports a token based user authentication that is based on SAML. This works fine with e.g. ESRI geoportal server for which we provide a dedicated adapter. The way geonetwork handles authentication in case of an transactional request against the CSW interface differs from that approach and is not supported yet.

The basic problem is that the OGC CSW 2.0.2 spec does not include any authentication mechanism. So it is up to the implementation to provide "something" on top of CSW. As a result, there exists no generic approach for authenticating against a CSW. Hopefully this will be resolved in a future CSW spec.

However, the good news are that we're working on that issue already. I'll let you know as soon as there is something available.

Best regards,
Kristian

Kristian,
Thanks, I was just learning about that, and found an example
online using python to authenticate against the GeoNetwork CSW
(http://lab.usgin.org/groups/etl-debug-blog/geonetwork-authentication-and-csw-transactions-through-python).

We look forward to seeing your solution.

Thanks for a great editor!

Jim
